Usually we called this section "workshops". Then we told you on this page, that a workshop doesn't need to be an event with hands-on and making – but sure it could! We said that a "workshop" is just something, that happens at a special time and place. Therefore we changed the name to "Self-organized Sessions" that includes everything - everything that is organized by you!

Such an event can be...
* ... a gathering of a project group or on a special topic,
* ... a contest or a game
* ... a small talk or lecture
* ... a screening of a movie
* ... something with music, literature and art
* ... a follow-up-discussion on one ob the "big talks" or another topic that happened rencently
* ... everything else you think that needs to take place at the camp
* ... and hey, it might even be a workshop!

Speakers Queue up next to stage, have slides ready to go if doing so, may be able to submit slides ahead of time to AV tech for quick transitions, or have tested presentation mode. Timer set for about 5 minutes, expect to be ceremoniously cut off and the next speaker will be up.

If you don't want your talk to be on youtube or recorded, please make a note, it helps if everyone who does not want it to be broadcast is together so the switch can be toggled fewer times.

Network services will be provided, including external Internet access.

*A camp-wide wireless network will be offered for use to all attendees. There is a lot of coverage- and we may add a few more spots.

*A limited number of wired connections will be provided at best effort to fixed locations upon request 30-days in advance, signed in triplicate.

We recommend you download and install the certs on your devices before you get to the island. Or feel free to use the static WPA key network too.

====Services====
If you would like to provide services at the event please send in some info about what you are trying to offer, and every effort will be made to facilitate this on the Toorcamp network. Please keep in mind the nature and location of the event, and the facilities. A datacenter grade network is not offered, and services should be focused on local delivery and consumption.

====Internet====
The primary Internet connectivity is fiber provided by [https://rockisland.com Rock Island Communications] and additional 2 business class units provided by SpaceX. With all of this, we should have anywhere from ~500Mbps - 10Gbps of total bandwidth. Please do not use this to download torrents, or hog this bandwidth.

====Public IPs====
We expect to have a "public" network which will assign publicly rotatable IPv4 & IPv6 addresses. This network is designed for hosting servers/services at camp. There will be no firewall, so be sure you know what you are doing and have followed the best security practices. Visit conwifi.org for mor inforamtion or reach out to the NOC team on discord.

====Domains====
If you would like to request a sub-domain of toor.camp for services you are running at camp with the public IP space, you can request one at https://dns.toor.camp.

====Terms====
Toorcamp network-ops reserves the right to block, throttle, drop or cut the cord on traffic that interferes with equal usage of the network by all. Please refrain from any activities that would damage the experience for others.

* Can I bring you my XYZ hardware?
** We have plenty of gear, and do not need anymore. If you want to help, donate some cash to ToorCamp.

* Can I setup my own WiFi using my hotspot/satellite/x.25 over barbed wired/carrier pigeon?
** We would suggest you don't. Not because we don't want participation, but mostly as we already provide this, and have been working on hardware upgrades for the property over the last 3+ years.
** Setting up your own hotspot could actually impact others experiences around you on the WiFi as we all get to share the same 2.4ghz and 5ghz spectrum for WiFi access.

We are scheduling the camp on June 8th-12th so it doesn't conflict with the bigger conferences and give people the chance to take some extra time off from work, unwind, learn some new skills, and hack on projects.

We recommend you download and install the certs on your devices before you get to the island. Or feel free to use the static WPA key network too.

====Services====
If you would like to provide services at the event please send in some info about what you are trying to offer, and every effort will be made to facilitate this on the Toorcamp network. Please keep in mind the nature and location of the event, and the facilities. A datacenter grade network is not offered, and services should be focused on local delivery and consumption.

====Internet====
The primary Internet connectivity is fiber provided by [https://rockisland.com Rock Island Communications] and additional 2 business class units provided by SpaceX. With all of this, we should have anywhere from ~500Mbps - 10Gbps of total bandwidth. Please do not use this to download torrents, or hog this bandwidth.

====Public IPs====
We expect to have a "public" network which will assign publicly rotatable IPv4 & IPv6 addresses. This network is designed for hosting servers/services at camp. There will be no firewall, so be sure you know what you are doing and have followed the best security practices. Visit conwifi.org for mor inforamtion or reach out to the NOC team on discord.

====Terms====
Toorcamp network-ops reserves the right to block, throttle, drop or cut the cord on traffic that interferes with equal usage of the network by all. Please refrain from any activities that would damage the experience for others.

* Can I bring you my XYZ hardware?
** We have plenty of gear, and do not need anymore. If you want to help, donate some cash to ToorCamp.

* Can I setup my own WiFi using my hotspot/satellite/x.25 over barbed wired/carrier pigeon?
** We would suggest you don't. Not because we don't want participation, but mostly as we already provide this, and have been working on hardware upgrades for the property over the last 3+ years.
** Setting up your own hotspot could actually impact others experiences around you on the WiFi as we all get to share the same 2.4ghz and 5ghz spectrum for WiFi access.

The closest major airports are Bellingham International Airport (BLI) (~1 hour away from the Anacortes Ferry Terminal), Seattle/Tacoma International Airport (SEA) (~2 hours away from the Anacortes Ferry Terminal), Victoria International Airport (YYJ) (~10 min away from the Victoria Ferry Terminal). It can then take up to 90 minutes to get to the island on the Ferry and then another 30 minutes drive from the ferry terminal to the [http://doebay.com Doe Bay Resort]. Also, [http://www.kenmoreair.com Kenmore Air] provides a transfer from SEA and flight [http://www.kenmoreair.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Orcas-Island-Airport.pdf from Boeing Field to Orcas Island]. Usually SEA has cheaper flights and rental cars. Victoria, BC is closer but probably more expensive because it's in Canada and you may have more issues with renting cars and driving them into the US. If you're going to be flying into Orcas Island you should post your flight to the Rideshare Forums to see if people want to carpool from the airport on the island which is ~20 minute drive from the [http://doebay.com Doe Bay Resort]. Either way, the drive to the site is absolutely beautiful and it'll give you a chance to experience the picturesque San Juan Islands.
